Litter to Energy
A number of technologies can recover nutrients and energy as value added products from animal manure and poultry litter. However, these technologies must be fully integrated into the current zoning, permitting and energy structures if they are to be widely used on-farm or expanded to the commercial level. Barriers currently include a lack of understanding of these litter-to-energy systems by permitting agencies, local zoning authorities, funding authorities and utility companies.
